Reasons to buy in Portugal
Twenty Good Reasons To Buy
Your Dream Home In The Sun In Portugal
- Portugal’s climate is superb – warm and sunny without overdoing it. Unlike some of the Spanish costas which can suffer 40°+ Centigrade (100°+ F) for days or even weeks on end, Atlantic breezes make the daily highs altogether more balmy. (It’s one of the reasons that golfing is so popular in this region.)
- Getting there is easy - with plenty of flights from a selection of airlines serving its airports (Faro, Lisbon and Oporto) from UK/RoI and many other locations around the globe.
- Portugal’s cost of living can make your money go further than in most parts of northern Europe... maybe up to 50% further!
- This region is a place of outstanding scenic and natural beauty. You’ll discover stunning golden or silver sand beaches that stretch for miles, picturesque mountain vistas, lush rolling hills, medieval castles and Roman remains, quiet villages and cosmopolitan cities. There are more UNESCO World Heritage sites than you can shake a stick at.
- Visit the markets, supermarkets and local shops and you’ll find that the selection and quality of fruit and vegetables, meat and fish is excellent.
- Better still, you could easily grow such delicacies as medlar fruit, melons, plums, juicy figs, olives, grapes, oranges, lemons and more in your garden.
- In general, dining out and alcoholic drinks are relatively inexpensive.
- And you won’t need to go without your favourites – even in the far south of Portugal you can watch your favourite TV programmes via satellite broadcasts, too.
- It’s the perfect place to retire – the cost of living is lower than on, say, the Riviera or Costa del Sol and the Portuguese are genuinely friendly and welcoming people.
- The national health care system has been undergoing improvements for a number of years now and private medical insurance is by no means the only route to get good care.
- There are a good number of international schools, taking children from age three right up to university entrance level. Many teach the UK National Curriculum or children can go through the International Baccalaureate (I.B.) programme.
- Telecommunications systems are what you are used to – broadband, voice over IP (VoIP) and mobile phone networks are all in place.
- It’s safe. The recorded crime rate is lower than many countries including Sweden and the UK!
- You can own a property... and properties increase in value.
- Spoken English is commonplace around resort areas and areas with a higher concentration of expats. It’s also quite widely spoken in the business community, too.
- Given the geography and the climate, the opportunities for sport and fitness are many – flying, gliding, mountain biking, walking, hiking, fishing, boating, surfing, sailing scuba diving – to name just a few! Of course, in many areas you’ll also find gyms and fitness centres, leisure parks, health spas, tennis and squash.
- Portugal gives you the chance for year-round golf - with many superb 9 and 18 hole courses. (And this means a steady stream of visiting golfer rental income, if that’s what you are seeking.)
- Petrol and diesel are cheaper than many locations around Europe.
- Our partners have multi-lingual staff in offices on the Algarve - so local advice and assistance is never that far away.
- Portugal has always been popular with overseas buyers. With superb weather, an appealing mix of old and new and a lower cost of living; it’s no surprise that many north Europeans continue to make this destination their number one choice for a holiday home, a permanent home or indeed an investment home.
