There are six regions in the Dominican Republic and each region very much has its own character and geography, ranging from dramatic mountain ranges, to tropical rain forests, to lush pastureland, to palm fringed, fine sand beaches, to arid plains.

- North East Region – beaches, whale watching
- East Coast Region – beaches, golf, watersports,
eco-tourism - Central Region – agriculture, cigar manufacture,
eco-tourism, national parks - South Central Region – museums, cities, diving, music and dance
