Cape Verde - An Overview
Situated south east of the Canaries, and now easier than ever to reach as a result of new direct flights from European airports, the Cape Verde Islands are a paradise waiting to be discovered.
The European Caribbean
Dubbed the European Caribbean, these tropical islands are encircled by magnificent coral reefs and azure seas teeming with colourful marine life (including turtles, tropical fish and dolphins).
The islands have strikingly beautiful landscapes and long, silvery-white, sandy beaches where you can soak up one of the very best climates in the world.
Thanks to the trade winds, year-round coastal temperatures are in the high twenties and humidity is low which makes the climate very comfortable.
Most islands get very little rain although the higher elevations of the mountainous regions of Fogo and Santo Antão receive sufficient to give the place a verdant, “jungly” feel.
All in all, it’s a great place to visit regardless of the time of year.
New property hotspot
Once you‘ve had the chance to browse the information we’ve prepared for you, you’ll see exactly why this region is set to become one of the next great property hot spots.
Investing early while prices are low offers you some very attractive properties… set in stunning locations… at bargain prices.
But the bargains won’t last forever once the word gets out and visitor numbers increase.
Think Caribbean rather than Costa del Sol
Although there are already a good number of quality hotels, tourism is still in its infancy. You‘ll find the islands’ resorts more akin to some of those in the Caribbean rather than what you might expect to find in the Costa del Sol!
If you want miles of high rise concrete, don’t consider Cape Verde. But if a truly unspoiled location is what you are seeking, you’re in the right place.
Cape Verde’s fabulous climate, stunning beaches, peace, tranquility and unhurried pace of life may not suit everyone… but it could easily be your idea of paradise!
So let’s take a closer look, shall we?
About the region
About three hundred miles (500 km) off the coast of Senegal, West Africa, lies an archipelago of ten islands and eight islets called Cabo Verde ( “Green Cape”… or Cape Verde to you and I).
Of volcanic origin, the archipelago is divided into two groups of islands.
The windward (Barlavento) islands are located in the north of the archipelago: Santo Antão, São Vicente, São Nicolau, Sal and Santa Luzia plus the islets of Branco and Raso which lie to the west.
The leeward (Sotavento) islands are more to the south: Brava, Santiago and Fogo are rocky and volcanic agricultural islands. These islands have the densest population and the longest history of human population.
There’s a huge contrast between the islands and they each have their own personality. The landscape ranges from flatlands to soaring, rugged mountains. from plunging valleys covered in lush plantations to enormous sandy beaches.
